Adolf-Würth-Zentrum für Geschichte der Psychologie

Exhibition

Within the realms of it's possibilities, the Adolf-Würth-Center organizes different exhibitions on changing topics.

In December 2017 we were proud to open our fourth exhibition with the title: "Psychotechnique - a young science finds its application".

The exhibit presents round about 50 years of the development of Psychotechnique, beginnig with William Stern's programmatic call (1903), that psychology as a science needs useful applications for the industry and for the society as a whole to have a future. Stern coined the term "Psychotechnique" for this applied field of psychology.
It was Stern's close friend Hugo Münsterberg who began at Havard University with the development of the first aptitude tests for tram drivers.
The First World War was to some degree an accelerator for the development of psychotechnical methods and since these methods proved to be successful, the work in this field was continued and expanded from decade to decade. The exhibition shows this development in different areas up to the 1950s.

As in all our exhibitions, visitors can try some apparatus on their own, e.g. old aptitude tests as well as early driving and  flying simulators.
